This used to be a good place to eat. But this time it was awful. I ordered eggs bacon and hash browns. I think I was served boiled possum. But that sure wasn't bacon. And a black cat came out of the kitchen and walked around the restaurant. The front door is falling off the hinges. I believe a call to the health department might is in order.
We were actually really impressed with the quality of the catfish dinner. Got more than enough to make it a good value. Catfish is breaded in house which was seasoned to my liking. Add in the fried okra and black eyed peas, it was a tasty meal.
Server was very friendly and kept the sweet tea coming.
Food was fair even though most of the vegetables on the steam table was canned or at least tasted that way. The server was very nice but spent a lot of time outside in her car not watching the restaurant and the steam table was very high in temperature my pork chops were almost to the point of jerky lol and the soup was mush. My greatest complaint was the restroom even if the food is good, cleaning of the rest rooms is most important as it speaks to how attentive you are to the rest of the restaurant. The walls was filthy and the one potted plant was so dusty and there was spiders everywhere. My journey as a culinary student I notice a lot more than I did before going to school safety and sanitation is very important, they put there heart in it and I would love to see it grow . A little more love here or there and this would be a great place to dine, but for a trucker looking for a reasonable home cooked meal it was a pleasant stop.
Place is a bit run down but I would still recommend giving it a try.
Very good breakfast. Eggs, grits, toast & country bacon. Large dirt parking lot with plenty truck spaces. Always appreciate truck parking with good food. Nice change from franchise truck stops. This seems to take us back to the older era of trucking.
"The worse the building looks, the better the food will be" is a maxim that has never failed me. This place off the highway in Palestine, AR (Pop. 670) is literally a shack with a dirt parking lot. And they have THE best southern food I have ever eaten in my entire life. If you like biscuits, corn bread, southern fried chicken, and home-seasoned pork chops, you owe it to yourself to eat at Natty's.
